Idea threads · reading Chinese thought across texts

Concepts that keep returning.

The Yijing, Meihua Yishu, and Dao De Jing are not one system. They do share a habit of thinking through change, relation, position, and timing. These essays make those connections visible to readers outside Chinese traditions.

Thread 01 Reversal is the movement of the Dao How a line from the Dao De Jing can help us think about change without turning it into a promise. Thread 02 Wu wei is not doing nothing How a phrase often translated as “non-action” can be read as action without coercion.

Editorial standard

Connections are made in the open.

Each thread begins with a primary text, separates a working translation from interpretation, offers a Western entry point, and states what the idea does not authorize. The essay remains readable on its own.

Cross-text and cross-tradition relations are maintained in the knowledge map. A comparison is an editorial aid, not a claim of equivalence, historical causation, or an outcome promise. Read the methodology for the labelling and correction rules, and the privacy page for data handling.
